Industrial Insertion and In-Line Mass Flow Meters Sierra’s industrial insertion and in-line mass flow meters monitor the mass flow rate of air and process gases.
Utilizing Sierra’s patented Steel-Trak sensor, none of them require the temperature and pressure corrections necessary for pitot-tube, orifice, or other volumetric flow monitoring devices.

massend.gif (9891 bytes)

In 1973, Sierra Instruments introduced the first thermal anemometer for industrial use – the rugged, field-proven Accu-Flo Meter. This pioneering achievement is the first link in a chain of Sierra innovations, culminating in the incredibly rugged Steel-Trak sensor flow.

Sierra’s industrial meters utilize two sensors – a velocity sensor and a temperature sensor that automatically corrects for changes in gas temperature. Sierra’s proprietary electronics heats the velocity sensor at a constant
temperature differential above ambient and measures the cooling effect of the gas flow. Since the molecules of the gas carry away heat, the output signal is directly proportional to gas mass flow rate.

The sensors’ performance is unexcelled: +-2% of reading accuracy; 0.2% of full scale repeatability; and one second time response. They accurately monitor velocities as low as 5 SFPM and as high as 15,000 SFPM. Their 316 stainless steel sealed encasements make them virtually indestructible
and contamination-resistant.

S-Series SMART Electronics Now Available on all Industrial Insertion and In-Line Mass Flow Meters Sierra Instruments' Smart Thermal Mass Flow Meters provide a variety of field-adjustment features, as well as the ability to confirm or "field-validate" the meter's calibration and measurement accuracy.

The microprocessor-based transmitter integrates the functions of flow measurement, flow-range adjustment, meter validation and diagnostics. Mass flow rate and totalized flow, as well as other configuration variables, are displayed on the meter's 2 x 12 back-lit LCD panel. The programmable transmitter is easily configured via an RS-232 com port and Sierra's Smart Interface PC-based software; or via the display and function switches on the front panel of the device.

The S-Series electronics allows users to easily configure or change the following parameters: flow range, totalizer, alarm settings, time response, zero flow cut-off and a calibration correction factor to compensate for flow profile variations or specific application conditions. Smart Interface also furnishes a means to directly adjust the meter's calibration for a different gas composition or flow range.

The instrument electronics provide a unique feature not available in any other thermal mass flow meter: a means to confirm or "field-validate" that the flowmeter's primary sensing elements have not drifted or shifted from their original calibration. Sierra's Smart Interface software also guides the operator through a procedure that checks the system electronics, linearization, and microprocessor functionality to fully validate the instrument's performance.

Sierra's S-Series Smart Thermal Mass Flow Meters are FM, CSA and Eex- approved for operation in hazardous areas and are available with a variety of input-power, output-signal, process-connection, and packaging options.

780S.gif (15627 bytes)

Take a look at our Sierra Model 780 part number selection guide !

The Series 780S gas flow meter offers improved measurement capabilities in installations where long straight pipe runs are not available. The thermal mass flow meter incorporates a unique dual-plate flow conditioner to eliminate velocity profile distortions as well as swirl and temperature stratification in the gas stream. The Model 780S is FM, CSA and Eex- approved for hazardous locations and is available in pipe sizes from 1/4 inch to 8 inches, in flow ranges from 0-15 SCFM to 0-7000 SCFM.

Series 760/780UHP-S Ultra High Purity Mass Flow Meter Designed and built to meet Ultra High Purity standards.

The Series 760UHP-S and 780UHP-S mass flow meters are the instruments of choice for gas distribution service in semiconductor fabs, pharmaceutical production and other ultra-clean processes. Real-time monitoring of gas usage
provides reliable information on consumption and usage patterns in the manufacturing area, to be used for both billing and diagnostic purposes.
780uhp.gif (24163 bytes)
The Ultra High Purity meters are constructed of 316L electropolished tubing with a 7-10 Ra or 20-25 Ra interior finish. The tubing's smooth, level surface eliminates turbulence and erosive action, which generates particulates.

The Model 780UHP-S incorporates flow conditioning to remove flow profile distortions, swirl and temperature stratification in less than three diameters. The resulting measurement accuracy and low permanent pressure loss solves a common and persistent problem found in gas distribution service.

The meter is FM, CSA and Eex- approved for operation in hazardous areas and is available with a variety of input-power, output-signal, mounting and packaging options.

Series 650 Flow Averaging Arrays
Multi-Point Mass Flow Rate Averaging for Pipes and Ducts.
650sierra.gif (13093 bytes)
When flow is not uniform enough for single-point monitoring, Series 650 Arrays can be easily inserted into pipes or ducts to accurately average up to 50 gas mass velocity points. In a typical power plant, the Series 650 monitors preheater air, fuel gas flow, HVAC air flow, and stack emissions. Only Sierra’s Series 650 offers you these advantages. Up to 10 one-inch-diameter probes, each with up to five velocity sensors, can be daisy-chained to a Sierra
Collector-Box (see page 5). The Collector-Box delivers the grand average mass velocity of the array. The Series 650 averages the individual gas mass velocity readings with exceptional accuracy.
