THEORY OF OPERATION:

The new Tidalflux from Krohne can accurately measure flows in pipes that are as little as 10% full.  Now you can get the accuracy of a mag meter without the full pipe requirement. 

The Tidalflux Magnetic Flowmeter is designed for those applications where the pipe is not always completely filled with liquid. Conventional meters assume   a full pipe and report volumetric flow  rates based on that assumption. Since there are many installations where partially filled pipes are common, the Tidalflux measures both level in the pipe and liquid velocity to provide the true volumetric flow through the meter. Unlike devices using multiple electrodes to sense a full or empty pipe condition, the Tidalflux integrates a capacitance level sensor into the wall of the flowtube.

This non wetted sensor provides the converter with a continuous measurement of level in the meter. The magnetic flowmeter velocity sensing electrodes have been moved lower in the flow tube permitting a 1% flow rate accuracy with as little as 10% level in the flowtube.

The meter is ideally suited for water and waste water applications replacing traditional open channel metering techniques. The savings in installation, commissioning, and maintenance costs make it a very attractive choice.

by means of teh magnetic inductive principle and the wetted area A is computed using the integrated capacitive level measurement.

LEVEL MEASUREMENT

The capacitive level measurement system is based on the variable capacitive coupling between two metal plates. These plates are integrated in the liner of the meter. 

The capacitive coupling C between the plates is proportional to wetted   cross-section A.

The Tidalflux integrates an advanced system of transmission and detection
plates into the liner of the flowmeter. For measurements in partially filled  pipes, the transmission plates are divided into segments, that will  greatly improve the measuring accuracy of the level measurement system.

The level measurement of the wetted cross-section is performed by integrally  mounted electronics. This level data is linked via serial digital communication to a remote flow converter (SC1OO PF). The flow converter can be programmed in the same manner as a normal SC1OO AS and provides the necessary (flow)
outputs.
