Tranter SUPERCHANGER® Plate & Frame HE
The SUPERCHANGER® heat exchanger is designed to provide maximum efficiency in transferring heat from one liquid to another, or from steam to liquid. The SUPERCHANGER® consists of a series of gasketed, embossed metal plates arranged alternately and bolted together between end frames to form channels through which hot and cold media flow. The hot fluid flows on one side of the plate while the cold fluid flows on the other, with the plate itself providing the most effective means to transfer heat from one fluid to the other. Gaskets mounted on the plates seal the channels and provide flow direction. As liquids flow counter-currently through the channels between the plates, the cold liquid becomes warmer and the hot liquid cooler.

Tranter SUPERCHANGER Plate & Frame HE

Most units are designed for a one pass/one pass flow arrangement resulting in all nozzles being installed on the stationary end frame, which facilitates simpler piping arrangements and easier disassembly.

High Heat Transfer Rates
Due to its high efficiency, the SUPERCHANGER® unit can handle temperature approaches of less than 1°C (2°F). It also offers “U” values significantly greater than other exchangers, above 8500 W/m2 °C (1500 Btu/hr ft2 °F). This is due to the unique turbulence created by its corrugated plates, which eliminates stagnant areas in liquid flow and promotes maximum heat transfer.

Self-Cleaning Action
The unit’s velocity profile and induced turbulence causes dirty product deposits to be continually removed from the heat transfer surface during operation, thereby reducing fouling. Effective use of the plate’s turbulence can be made with in-place cleaning, which allows backflushing water or pumping cleaning solutions into the unit without disassembling.

Units can also be taken apart for cleaning the plate surfaces. Plates can be electropolished to make cleaning easier, either manually or in place.

SUPERMAX® Construction
The chevron-type plates are fabricated into a cassette by a resistance seam weld, whose burst test strength is stronger than parent metal. Cassettes are then placed together and perimeter welded to each other, producing an accordion-like core that is highly tolerant to thermal expansion.

The plate pack is then inserted in a cylindrical shell. The shell and plate pack is fitted with special fluid diverters to ensure proper flow throughout the unit. End plates, nozzles and top and bottom covers are welded to the shell to form a pressure vessel of high integrity. Extra-large nozzle sizes can be accommodated on the shell side of the exchanger.

SUPERMAX® Materials
SUPERMAX® plate materials may be Type 316L stainless steel, titanium or other alloys; shells may be fabricated of carbon steel, Types 304, 316, 316L stainless and titanium. The unit can be fabricated from dissimilar metals when only one side will be exposed to corrosive conditions.

Tranter MAXCHANGER®
A quick look at the MAXCHANGER® may lead you to dismiss it as a CBE heat exchanger. Yet there is nothing brazed in this unit—it is truly 100% same-same material. Consider MAXCHANGER® ratings: to 70 barg and 538°C. No CBE can survive under those conditions.

MAXCHANGER® single- and multiple-pass designs provide durable performance in tight spaces. The unique geometry of the patented MAXCHANGER®’s variable interspaces produce extremely high "K" values. Channels formed between the specially dimpled, welded plates direct the two heat transfer media counter currently through alternate paths for maximum efficiency, immediate thermal response and a close temperature approach capability of less than 1°C.

Tranter Spiral Heat Exchanger
The concept of a spiral heat exchanger is as simple as it is sophisticated. Two or four long metal strips, onto which spacer studs are welded, are wound around a core, thus creating two or four equally spaced single-passage channels.

The concentric shape of the flow-passages and the studs yield turbulence at low Reynolds numbers. By optimising the flow pattern, heat transfer is enhanced, whilst fouling is reduced. This yields a compact and space-saving construction that can be readily integrated in any plant and reduces installation costs.

Because of the all-welded and robust design, and the low fouling properties, maintenance costs are reduced to a minimum. From the viewpoint of Total Cost of Ownership, the spiral heat exchanger is frequently the most cost-effective solution.
Tranter Spiral Heat Exchanger

Because of the single-flow passages, the spiral heat exchanger is State-of-the-Art-Technology especially in the case of fouling, viscous and/or particle-loaded fluids and is therefore frequently the first, if not the only choice.

In case of condensation applications, the spiral heat exchanger demonstrates its versatility. It is almost the ideal condenser, especially in case of condensing mixed vapours, with or without inert gases. The concentric, single-flow passage constitutes a perfect geometry for this task and is therefore a basis for maximised product recovery.
